Compare the Dr. Marty Essential Wellness 48oz and 6oz bags on cost per ounce, trial convenience, and storage. Find out which size fits your dog's routine.
Quick Answer
Buy the 6oz Dr. Marty Essential Wellness first if you are introducing the food or testing whether your dog accepts it. Choose the 48oz bag once you know your dog likes it and you can store it properly, because the larger format lowers the cost per ounce and reduces how often you reorder.
Price per ounce is the real difference
The 48oz bag is priced at $66.02 against a $92.99 comparison price, while the 6oz bag is $11.47 against a $15.29 comparison price. Per ounce, the 48oz format works out to roughly $1.38, compared with about $1.91 for the 6oz bag. That gap is the main reason repeat buyers move up to the larger size.
The 6oz bag still has a place: it lets you try the food without committing to a full 48oz supply. If your dog turns its nose up at it, you have spent far less finding out.
How long the 48oz bag lasts depends on your dog
The catalog does not list a serving size or feeding chart for either bag, so no one can give you an exact number of days the 48oz will last. Your dog's weight, age, and activity level all change the answer.
Use the label directions on the bag you receive to set the daily amount, then divide 48 ounces by that amount. That gives you a realistic duration for your own dog rather than a generic estimate.
Storage and freshness favor the smaller bag for some households
A 48oz bag is a large amount of freeze-dried raw food to keep fresh. If you have one small dog or feed the food as a topper rather than a complete meal, the bag may sit open for months. The 6oz bag avoids that problem because you finish it quickly.
If you do buy the 48oz, plan to store it sealed and in a cool, dry place, and consider splitting it into smaller containers so you are not opening the main bag every day.
Size Trade-Offs at a Glance
- Cost per ounce: The 48oz bag costs about $1.38 per ounce; the 6oz bag costs about $1.91 per ounce. The larger bag is the better value per ounce. If your dog already eats the food regularly, the 48oz bag saves money over repeat 6oz purchases.
- Trial risk: The 6oz bag limits your exposure if your dog does not accept the food. The 48oz bag commits you to a much larger supply. First-time buyers should start with the 6oz bag unless they have already confirmed acceptance.
- Freshness window: A 48oz bag lasts longer and may stay open for months in a single-small-dog home. The 6oz bag is used up faster. Choose the 6oz bag if you feed small portions or use the food as a topper rather than a full meal.
- Reorder frequency: The 48oz bag reduces how often you need to place an order, which matters if you prefer to shop less often. Buy the 48oz only if you have sealed storage space for it.
